Log splitters are known for their impressive efficiency in cutting logs into smaller pieces. Here at DK2, our OPS240 Kinetic Log Splitter is perfect for handling even the toughest logs needed for firewood, landscaping, woodworking, and construction purposes.

Safety Tips Before Using the Kinetic Log Splitter

Before you start, clear the area of people and any objects. Be mindful of your surroundings while using the machine, and ensure only one person operates the log splitter at a time. Always wear fitted clothing to prevent anything from getting caught in the ram. Log splitters are only made to split wood, so avoid using the equipment for cutting other materials like metal and plastic. Finally, keep children away from the machine.

How to Operate the OPS240 Kinetic Log Splitter

Before starting, wear protective gear (gloves, goggles, sturdy shoes). Load the log onto the beam and press it against the splitting wedge. Then, follow these steps for a safe and efficient log splitting process:

1) To prepare for log splitting, run the engine at full RPM. This will push the ram forward and automatically retract within a 1-minute cycle time.

2) Allow the machine to fully retract before loading the next log for splitting.

3) Once the engine is at full RPM, pull and hold the safety lever with your left hand, then quickly push the splitting lever with your right hand. Release the splitting lever afterward.

4) Do NOT hold the splitting lever down. Remember, the ram and splitting lever automatically retract after the machine splits the log.

The log splitter should always be used outdoors, not indoors, since it releases gas fumes.

Log Splitter Maintenance Tips

To ensure longevity and optimal performance of your log splitter, here are some maintenance tips to consider:

1) Turn off the machine and disconnect the spark plug wire to let it cool down.

2) Regularly apply standard grease to the rack, rack teeth, pinion and spine.

3) Keep the log beam clean and free of grease while using the machine.

4) Periodically check all log splitter parts for loose nuts and bolts, and tighten them as needed.

When it comes to servicing the engine, consult your KOHLER Owner’s Manual for guidance. It’s worth noting that the bearings on your log splitter are sealed units, so they won’t require servicing. Make sure to routinely inspect your machine’s belts and pulleys for any signs of wear or damage.

Troubleshooting Your DK2 Log Splitter

If your log splitter fails to start, check these five log splitter parts:

1) Check the oil level. The DK2 log splitter features a low oil shut-off protection to prevent damage to the machine.

2) Ensure the spark plug wire is seated properly. A loose or undone wire will prevent the engine from starting.

3) Check that the gas lever is in the “ON” position.

4) If your log splitter is not starting during cold temperatures, be sure to use the choke.

5) Check the gas level.

At DK2, we like to believe we have the best log splitter in the market. If your machine is still not working after checking these log splitter parts, reach out to our product support team for assistance.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it worth getting a log splitter?

A log splitter makes splitting logs easier and more efficient. You can get more done in less time, and it’s safer than using an ax or other sharp tools. By doing the hard work for you, a log splitter reduces the risk of injury and makes the whole process smoother.

What do I need to know before buying a log splitter?

Before purchasing a log splitter, consider key factors like size, power, portability, cost, and ease of use. Make sure the model you select fits the specific needs of your project.

How big of a log can a splitter handle?

It mainly depends on the machine, but most log splitters can handle logs ranging from 18 to 25 inches long. Our OPS240 Kinetic Log Splitter, for example, is capable of splitting logs that are up to 22 inches in diameter and 22 inches in length.

Can a log splitter be used in different weather conditions?

Log splitters are meant for outdoor use, so they can handle various weather conditions like rain, winter cold, and high heat. However, safety should always come first. For instance, in winter, clear the machine of snow before use. In rainy weather, set up a canopy to prevent overexposure to rain and ensure the machine is on level ground to avoid slipping.
